The 18th Pan American Games are to take place in 2019. 41 countries from the Americas are expected to participate. The process is yet to begin in 2012 and a country may be elected by 2013.
Possible bids
- Lima bid for the 2015 Pan American Games and finished a distant runner up to Toronto.
- Puerto Rico is interested in bidding for the 2019 or 2023 Games.[3] Puerto Rico previously hosted the 1979 Pan American Games in its capital city of San Juan. The western city of Mayagüez is considering presenting a bid after successfully hosting the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.
- During the 2011 Pan American Games, the Chilenan capital had been lobbing for these games, and stated their 2014 South American Games venues are being built to high Panamerican standards.[7]
- During the 2011 Pan American Games, United States Olympic Committee chief, Scott Blackmun said that the United States would be interested in hosting the Pan American Games at some point. [9]
- Rosario, Argentina Miguel Lifschitz, Rosario's mayor, said that the the city want to host the 2019 Pan American Games[10].
